Clare Boyd’s goal in life is to become President of Garford and Miller Direct, in order to attain that she will do anything it takes.
But when Clare wakes up in an improbable place the morning after an important client’s company function and can’t remember how she came to be there, her life takes a different direction all together. Believing she was orphaned at a young age, Clare is sceptical when a woman claiming to be her mother arrives at her door bearing evidence that her father was a notorious serial killer. The truth becomes more obscured the harder Clare tries to sort through the maze of lies and half truths. The lines between Clare’s personal life and her business persona become increasingly blurred as she desperately searches for the answers she needs.
Sam Cross presents the storyline from each character’s point of view, skilfully weaving all the facts into each one. Dreams and memories interchange, leading the reader farther into the mist where the truth flits elusively. Not until the end is the true horror of what happened at Clare’s childhood home revealed with a flourish. Cross leaves blood and intrigue on each page and keeps his reader riveted right up to the last word. Fans of mysteries and thrillers will appreciate what Harm’s Way has to offer. A highly recommended read for fans of this genre.

We saw Shutter ISland last night and the concept of blurred lines was a constant theme. Authors can use this to keep the reader guessing through the entire story and keep them hooked, turning the pages to try and guess corectly what will happen next.
